I am seeing errors with the new activation scheme implemented in the new RIDE7 with RKit-STM8.

RIDE7 version: Ride7_7.32.11.0112
RKit-STM8 version: RKit-STM8_2.36.11.0201

I have two installations of RIDE7/RKit-STM8, one on a desktop, another on a notebook. The problem installation is on the notebook.

My notebook is running Windows 7 x64, I am using the Ethernet port for network to company resources and Internet, WiFi is not enabled.

When I previously activated the installed copy of RKit-STM8, the Ethernet cable is plug-in and activated the copy and was working. Today I was doing field test without the Ethernet cable plug-in and RKit-STM8 complains that demo period expired, and need to activate again! Using the activation code previously obtained and used, trying to activate it and failed... Going back to my desk and plug-in to get another activation code and it activated. Un-plug and going back to the field and Rkit-STM8 complains again and crash!

I noticed that when plug-in and not plug-in, the Site/MID codes are different!

Network adapter: Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet
Notebook: HP 6530B
VMWare installed.

Hi,

Thanks for your report. We transmitted this issue to our Labs, where an Engineer will analyze the failure and try to provide a fix for it.

More news later...

Bruno,

In the mean time, can I activate the old version of RKit-STM8 to further my work while the issue is being resolved?

I have sent an email request for activation.

Hi,

I digged (dug?) some more on the issue and found something that could be interesting...

The activation mechanism might get confused if you _remove_ some network adapters after activating. Maybe on your laptop the network adapter is completely powered off when the cable is not plugged, which would have the same effect as removing it. That would also explain why the Site Code changes when you unplug the cable. Adding adapters after activating should be handled correctly.

We are working on a proper solution for these issues. (Site Code not taking the network things into account... and other things to be determined) In the meantime, for you to be able to work and for us to know if this is really the correct explanation, could you please try the following procedure?
1. disable WIFI, disconnect the ethernet cable
2. start the registration of the kit, up to the point where you would click on "get activation code online".
3. plug your ethernet cable, make sure you can access the internet (using your browser)
4. go on with the activation process (click "get activation code online" etc.)

Please tell us if it works, and if not, how it fail.

Thank you for your patience.

Best Regards,

Vincent

Vincent,

Unfortunately I cannot test it at this moment as my notebook just went bye bye on me today... Need to get it fix before I can try the procedure.

In the meantime I am using a HP Mini to do my field test and it does not exhibit the same problem.

Vincent,

Got my notebook back and tested the methods you describe.

The activation works.

Able to compile/debug in both off-line (w/o Ethernet cable plug-in) and on-line (w/ Ethernet cable plug-in)!

VIncent,

Spoke too soon!!

I've shutdown the notebook and restarted, now Rkit-STM8 does not work anymore...

First execution after restarted, Rkit-STM8 just hang there and doing nothing with no response. Had to kill the process. Restarted and not activated anymore!! Going through the activation screen, it seems that the Site and MID codes are different from earlier run (using the procedure outline earlier).

First run:
Site: 8669A93C
MID: B17E-5DD2-B993-0C16

Second run after power-off/power-on cycle:
Site: B4855098
MID: 0022-689A-3A11-538F

KF,

Hi, I also faced same problem.

I've shutdown my PC and restarted, now RKit-STM8 and RKit-ARM doesn't work anymore...
(I have to subscribe the license again...)

in my environment, both of Rkit-STM8 and Rkit-ARM need authentication every time.
at this moment, I think every-time-activating is the only way to continue to use this apps...

First : 3/9/2011
Site code: 898863CB
MID: 0397-7B66-F65F-8176

Second: 4/9/2011
Site Code: 344FCB00
MID: 646C-9248-ACB4-F9A8

Hello,

We corrected a number of problems including (we think) those that you describe.

I will send you two some test versions by email.

To other customers, if you experience the same problems (loss of registration or software crashes) you can ask in this forum discussion to be sent the test versions for helping us in the validation. (and getting the fixes earlier)

Best Regards,

Vincent

Vincent,

Got the files and installed them, but unable to activate as Raisonance's support website is under maintenance (licensed expired, it seems and with different Site/MID).

Will try later when the support website is back up.

Hi,

While the server is down please contact for performing the activation by hand.

With the new versions it should not be lost after that.

Vincent,

I've tried the various scenarios -- plug-in, unplug, power cycle -- and the activation status is working!

Thanks!

Note that the RC version installer does not include the RLink driver in the package, and suggested installation directory is E:\Raisonance\Ride !!

I did not observe any of this. (and for sure this is not waht we wanted to do ;/ )

Did you completely uninstall the old versions before installing the new ones?

What do you mean by "the RLink driver in the package"?
Do you refer to the automatic installation of the USB driver during the installation of the Ride kit?
Do you refer to the \Driver folder?
Something else?

Yes, I did, including the driver.

When I installed the RC version, it did not installed the RLink driver. Since I have un-install it earlier, I can't run emulation test with the RC, thus I need to download the RLink driver and installed it for me to do the emulation test.

Hi,

You don't need to download it. Just run this exe:
\Driver\RLinkDrv\RLinkUSBInstall.exe

It's exactly the same as what the installer should have launched.

I will double-check why it didn't. Are you sure that you didn't cancel it?
During the install it asks if it should be done or not...

Best regards,

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback. We were able to reproduce the problem which appears only on some versions of Windows, (with UAC enabled) and we will make sure that it doesn't appear in the final packaging of the release.

We could check that even on the PCs where it does appear, running the exe works.
\Driver\RLinkDrv\RLinkUSBInstall.exe

Best Regards,

Vincent
