I have problems installing RLink on my WinXP SP3 machine. At first, I was not aware of the known XP SP3 installation problems, so I just used the applied installation CD which of course failed with the RLink installation. I then read on this support forum about the problems, and tried to follow the instructions in the GettingStartedRLink.pdf exactly. But it doesn't work for me. I'll try to explain in detail what I have done:

1. I plug the RLink
2. I go to the device manager. I mark the RLink and select uninstall
driver.
3. I unplug the RLink
4. I looked up and deleted the requested files in:
C:\Windows\inf\Windrvr6.*
C:\Windows\inf\RLink*.*
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Windrvr6.*
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\RLink*.*
C:\Windows\System32\DRVSTORE\Windrvr6*.*
5. I have however never found any folder named FileRepository
(C:\Windows\System32\DRVSTORE\FileRepository\RLink*.*)
6. I also deleted the registry keys in
:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum/USB/VID_138E&PID_9000/...
7. I then tried to install the drivers manually. But when I execute
I get some error messages like:

LOG Error: 2, error 3, RETURN UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices.
LOG Error: 2, error 3, InstallationError: Failed trying to install the driver

8. Running is however successful.

Any idea about what's wrong?

Hi,

My guess is you have an oem*.inf file that holds a hidden copy of the driver.
Use a grep to search all oem*.inf files for "RLink" or "Jungo".

On some Windows the DRVSTORE is called FileRepository, and sometimes it is under Windows\system32\drivers.
That might also explain the problem.

Hi,

XP32 (with any SP) is supported, but not XP64.

There are other things to check before you reinstall the OS. For example the problem could be due to a conflict with another software that also uses the Jungo driver.

Please search for any windrvr6.* file in the Windows folder and its subfolders.

Did you try plugging the RLink? If the installation of RLinkDrv_WDP.inf succeeds (your point 8), then maybe it's fine. The installation of Jungo could be reporting an error (your point 7) because there is already a newer version installed. But Ride should be able to work with the newer version of the driver, if you are using the latest version of the Ride kits.

Hi,
I encountered EXACTLY the same issue when I upgraded from Ride 7.14 to Ride 7.30 on my XP SP3 machine=> my Jungo USB RLink connection did not install anymore!

SYMPTOM
During the installation of the Primer.
the installation dialog box displays the error "The system cannot find the file specified"
and it goes again into a detection loop

Numerous times: I purged the windows system state, investigated the installation with registry and file monitoring tools.
removed/added oem* files and folders, installed complete ride7.30 suite and old 7.14suite, tried to install only the driver, different versions etc. removed other USB thingies, Nothing worked.
Always I saw in setupapi.log and by the flashing lights on the primer that the serial number was read but in the end the driver just did not install.

After one week(!) of fiddling...

I found in another group

Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

So go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New ยป Key

Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.

The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.

In my registry indeed the RunOnce key was missing, so I followed above procedure and pronto the RLINK USB installation went flawless and I could see my primer again!!
