Hi Raisonance.

Will you in the future or perhaps next week support the new MCU's series ST32F2xx from ST?

Best regards,

Slynge

Yes Sir!

We will release a new RKit-ARM early March, which will cover lots of new parts, including the STM32F2 series.

Hi there all you nice people at Raisonance.

Now we're at the end of April and I'm looking forward for the support of the STM32F2xx-series. Is there an update to this?

Kind regards,

Slynge

Hi Slynge,

The new RKit-ARM is still not validated :/
If you are in trouble we can provide you with a Beta version, but the release should be at the end of next week anyway, so the best would be to wait until then.

Hi, It is not announced on the home page yet, but here you can get the new kits from this site. Just click on Product Downloads. Don't forget to register the software, or it will stop working after 7 days. Best Regards, Vincent

Is there a crippled version that will work after 7 days? I just built a board using an STM32F205 and completely forgot that the version of Rkit I've been running for most of the last year might not support the new series. Alternatively, is there a way to create a profile for the new chip that I'm using so that it will work under the old (crippleware) version of Rkit? Thanks, Sasha Stanford Solar Car Project

Hi Sasha, You can still use the old "crippled" RKit-ARM from last year for free, although you will not be under valid support from Raisonance. Moreover, as you said, the STM32F-200 is not supported on the old RKit-ARM. You can use it to develop your F-200 application (that should not be too difficult), however it will not be possible to debug your application. The best for you is to purchase an RKit-ARM support extension, which is cheap and which will let you have access to RKit-ARM Lite (latest version), along with free upgrades for 1 year. If you are interested, ask Raisonance salesĀ  for a quote. Best Regards,

RFlasher also stops working after seven days as well. I can live without debugging capabilities but not without flashing capabilities.

Uninstalling the new version and reinstalling the old version produces an error that the demo period is over, despite the old version being freeware and the new version being installed yesterday. This seems like a bug.

Having to contact sales for a quote is usually a sign that I can't afford something.

I'll see what I can do in the mean time.

In this case it's the opposite: you might be entitled to a free upgrade. (or discounted)

For example if you have purchased your RLink less than one year ago, or an Open4, or if you have a RLink-PRO (even an old one), and also in some other less frequent situations. (RLink-STD upgraded to PRO, RLink-PPC used for ARM, etc.)

But "contacting sales for a quote" is required for checking this. You don't want to pay for something you could have for free, do you?

I already sent an email to the sales address. We'll see what they have to say.

Thanks for the heads up that some access to the tools comes with the purchase of an Rlink. I've gotten several over the last few years, the most recent being a little over a month ago and the next in a couple of weeks. That's very good to know.

It's good that there's a simple online form to purchase - I didn't find it when I did a flyby of the website hunting for pricing to calibrate my expectation for future ramen consumption.

My hope that there would be a simple hack to get the old tools (32KB debug limit is usually not a huge problem for me) to program the new chips didn't seem to work out so well. I replaced the HFARM.xml file from the old tools with the new ones as well as the sim folders, but that didn't seem to do the trick. Those files/folders are the only place where I found processor names while doing a string search of all the files in the Ride installation folder. Perhaps the list of supported processors is hardcoded or encrypted somewhere. Enough has changed between the old and new versions of Rkit-ARM that running diffs of the trees is not terribly fruitful.

On the bright side, I've had some luck with OpenOCD, Eclipse, and gdb.

You should specify them explicitly that you purchased an RLink less than one year ago, and that you are entitled to a free upgrade. Otherwise they might forget to ask.

Yes, I'll ask that they make it more visible, along with the list of situations that give you the free upgrade. (which I did not find ;/ )

You will not find a hack for this, simple or not, because we made sure that there is none. ;)

Thanks for all the information! I'll be sure to mention my Rlink purchase to them.

Are there plans to support the new processors in the free version of Rkit-ARM at some point in the future? I'm not asking for unlimited debugging capability or any of the 'professional' features - just the ability to target the platforms and burn code to them with an Rlink.

I ask because I have a whole group of student volunteers who need to be able to write code for the solar car team. I can buy myself a copy to work with, but it's an unsustainable thing to do for 10-15 people who turn over every couple of months.

Thanks,
Sasha
