Hi Brent,
We used to support Cosmic and Metrowerks compilers on Ride6 since early 2000. At that time, Raisonance was offering an assembler/linker along with an ST7 simulator.
Inheriting from nearly 20 years of experience in 8 and 16-bits C compiler developement, we developed our own ST7 Compiler, which hit the market in 2007. Now we have the STM8 support as well:
- Our Compiler has a high-end optimizer, and can check yourself using free evaluations of both Cosmic and Raisonance compilers that the code produced by our compiler is very good (especially on STM8, which has even more optimizations than in ST7 mode). Your project will then benefit from using the Raisonance compiler
- Also we will release an application note in few weeks about "Porting applications from Cosmic to Raisonance" (I can email you a pre-release version of the document if you are interested).
These are technical reasons why we do not support the Cosmic compiler anymore with Ride7, but there are also some business reasons: Our hope is that you will prefer using the Raisonance toolchain rather than Cosmic.
I know that in some cases you do not have an easy choice, but we do our best to have ST7 and STM8 developers using the Raisonance toolchain.
I hope this helps,
Bruno
Dear Bruno,
