Hi.
Today I just burned the SWIM adapter, probably by accidently adding 12V at the VTar. Unfortunately the power supply circuit at our board was very unstable, and this caused the issue.
I started smelling something, and when I touched the SWIM adapter to move it, I burned my finger very badly on the diode - the diode did even fell off when I removed my finger again.
Now when I connect power to the board with the SWIM adapter connected, the level translator chip gets really hot.

I would like to ask you what is required to fix the board? Would a replace of U4 be enough?
And what about the diode, what is the exact part number for that? Or could it be any Zener Diode rated at 6.8V?

Best Regards

Hi Thomas,

Trying to solder with bare hands is a tough thing, consider using an iron instead ;)

You can find the schematics for your adapter board at http://forum.raisonance.com/viewtopic.php?id=2449. I hope this can help you fix the problem. We cannot say whether this will be enough to get it back to working condition through, as many elements may have been damaged in the process...

Thanks.
I already had the schematic by hand, and fortunately we also had a 74LVC2T45DCT in stock.
The chip was replaced and the board seems to work fine again - though the Diode is still missing, so there is no protection on the Ground pin.

Though my finger still has a big scarf from the burn!
"Trying to solder with bare hands is a tough thing, consider using an iron instead" - I'll keep that in mind for next time :)
