Hi Vincent,
I have this peculiar problem. I am using RIDE ver 6.10.22 BN746 & our own board
designed for data logging & OS is XP. So far it was working fine & suddenly started giving message like

"Error During Connection to target", "Unable To Read ID code".

Connect to RLink is fine & showing "dngStd004000564".

Before this event, once in a while Erasing, Programming error used come. I used to repeat again & it would work fine. And it would reset only through software Resetting using RFLASHER Reset.

I also noted some files got corrupted & scandisk informed me. I Installed RIDE again incase those files are corrupt but its of no use.
I tried to RAM boot mode & tried to connect. No use.

I have 3 boards ready & all are giving same error.

I have tried connecting using Windows 2000, buut same error !

I went through your FAQ site found no such case.

What might be the problem?

I dont suspect that IC has gone bad(all 3 boards are giving same error)

I am stuck with it nearly one week. Dont know why its so cold.

Please HELP!!!
Thanks for your time
Pratibha

Hi,

I really don't see how it could stop working like this...

Can you inspect the soldering on the ADP:
Since you have three target boards, maybe you have unplugged and replugged it quite often...?

Do you have other RLinks to test?

Best Regards,

Vincent

Hi
I know why it was giving error. It was not coming out of RESET. I just connected 2.2K & 1nF for reset circuitary(Ref:HardwareGetting.pdf OR 10332.pdf from ST site) & I ignored the comparator IC there in the page. I never came across RESET time period in those documents.
So far it didnt give any problem, so I thoght its OK
with these values & I had small doubt about it. Now its over.
Now I am getting ID code but one more ERROR has popped up.

" Error 0x100 while trying to reset target for reading protection mask: Forbidden boot Mode detected"
I dont understand this error meaning. I tried booting from RAM but of no use.
I may find answer by evening or your answer tomarrow.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I would need to see your schematic in order to check the boot pins configuration.

Also, the latest version of RIDE has an improved boot mode detection.
I suggest you download it from our website and upgrade.
(It's RIDE7 now for ARM.)

Vincent

Hi Vincent
BootEn is always zero, Flash mode.
But I also connected these pins in case I need RAM mode. They are not in actaul ckt diagram, but loose wiring is done.

Boot.1 is connected to V3.3 through 1K Resistor
Boot.0 is connected to GND through 1K resistor
BootEn is connected to GND through 1K resistor. Also ome wire is brought out to jumper to connect to V3.3 whwenever RAM mode is needed.

Now I am testing with RIDE ver 7. Same error (0x100)

Now I am testing on only one board fearing others may also get stuck with protection bits or JTAG disabled etc...

Hi,

Please confirm that you have connected both the RST and TRST signals from RLink to the target STR7, but not to each other.

Please also tell me if your board has anything connected to any of the JTAG signals, and if yes, what.

It would really be much simpler if you could send a schematic to "support@raisoannce.com"...

Best Regards,

Vincent

Hi
This JTAG circuit is done using Orcad7 DOS version. In that ckt there are LEDs, UART level conversions & other circuitary is there. I am sending you bitmap image of screen print.
I have follwed this 10332.pdf OR "HardwareDettingStarted.pdf" figure 9, from ST's site.

JRst pin is connected to STR's RESET pin through Transistor ckt shown in that pdf document. I am attaching that pdf & bitmap file & mailing to .
Thanks

Hi,

There should not be any connection between RST and TRST when using RLink. As you can see in the ST document, they recommend to allow to cut this connection with a jumper, because some JTAG hosts need it and others don't. RLink doesn't. Please remove the transistors and see if it changes anything.

Also, DBGRQ should not be connected when using RLink.
Please see this FAQ entry and tell me if it helps in solving your problem:

Hi Vincent,
At last it started working. Thanks a lot....

It didnt work immediately. When "ConnectToTarget" button is pressed, it gave IdCode & Message like "Target is not protected. Do you want to use this protection Mask", I selected YES. Then I tried to Erase, it didnt work. I booted in RAM mode, then selected 400KHz JTAG freqency. It started erasing / programming.

Again I pressed "ConnectToTarget". This time message is like
"Target is partially protected. Protection mask is 20fff. Do you want to use this protection mask"

I think its ticking now. :)=)

Thanks for your patience & answers.

I forgot to tell you that, as per your suggestion I disconnected transistor ckt between nRESET & jTRST. Its working now.
I came across one application note wherein there was connection & no cut and jumper. So the problem.

Thanks
